How to Be an Ally to Fat People
September 6, 2020 | Workshop Facilitator, in collaboration with YES! to Consent to celebrate their 5th anniversary!
If you’ve ever wondered how non-Fat people can be respectful and active allies to Fat people, this session is for you. Right from the brain of a self-identifying Fat person, this workshop identifies what being an ally to Fat people is and how non-Fat individuals can practice it in a way that is beneficial to and welcomed by the Fat community. Allies play a necessary and vital role in the body liberation movement in helping to elevate and center Fat voices. Though conversations surrounding Fat voices are controversial, it is the responsibility of non-Fat people to engage with and support Fat people and to become better allies in the fight against fatphobia. Learn what a Fat person wants YOU to know and how you can get involved as an ally.
This workshop is part of a month of sexuality education programming celebrating 5 years of YES!, a nonprofit that provides intersectional, sex-positive sexuality education to people of all ages. Learn more about YES! at our website: https://yestoconsent.org/
